Visiting Chloride
by Julie Smith
If you are taking Route 93 between Las Vegas and Kingman, and have time to explore a bit, take the four mile side trip to Choride, Arizona. Chloride - a silver mining camp - is considered the oldest, continuously inhabited mining town of Arizona. On the way back from the Rondy we drove up to the town for a look around and followed the signs to the "Chloride Murals" that were painted in the 1960's and there were also ancient petroglyphs. Main Street is a tidy nod to the past with it's charming post office and older buildings. The store and restaurant looked inviting for further exploration and a meal. A nice side trip to visit a different way of life and a peek into history.
