CARRIZO CANYON ROCK ART

This was a day devoted to rock art. Our group gathered at 8:00 for the start of the trip. Trip participants were Bill and Barbara Gossett, Mignon Slentz, Glenn Shaw, Alan and Karen Hodes, Jeanne Murrin, Ron Lipari, Jeff Lipari and leaders Sunny & Jean Hansen. Our first destination involved a very scenic, slow drive into Carrizo Canyon. At the end of the road, we left the vehicles and walked a short distance to the first rock art site.
Everyone agreed that it was well worth seeing. It is a unique site in the Anza Borrego area.
We then left the canyon and proceeded up the road a short way and found a nice spot for a lunch break. After lunch, we headed to the Morteros village site and explored the area, finding many morteros and a few small pictographs. We proceeded to the next site, called Smugglers' Cove and after a scenic hike of approximately 1 mile, saw another very nice pictograph site.
We had a great group of people who made the trip exceptional! We could have asked for no more.
